So this show is awesome obviously. I figured I'd draw some anime styled fanart of it. I started off with traditional media on paper with colored pencils and markers, that scanned it and did the background and a few other details on gimp/paint. What do you think?

The traditional art is more attractive in this than the background. Even though the background style is clearly inspired by the show, the purples are way too saturated to be in line with the rest of the color palette (at least concerning the sea - it doesn't stand out as much at the top). The grainy texture of the characters adds a lot to this. Applying a similar effect to the background might make it look less detached.
